SGA 4×11 “Be All My Sins Remebered” — aka — OMG.

Spoilers ho, but no picspam, ya’ll are safe.

I could write a long review of this episode, except that in general, I adored it, there wasn’t much to talk about it, very plot heavy and fun.  I know there’s been some rumblings about how John reacted to Teyla’s pregnancy reveal — and frankly, I don’t really care whether people thought it was appropriate or not, I’ve pretty much shared John’s sentiment about her stupidly running around the fucking Pegasus Galaxy putting her baby in danger since she found out she was pregnant.  On the other hand, who knows if his shouting at her was appropriate?  (I vote: yes.  A lot.)  But the real thing that I came away with from that conversation is this: I bet you a lot of money that at some point during his earlier life, John Sheppard either (a) was a father or (b) almost was a father.

Also, John/Larrin interaction: HILARIOUS.  His attempting to get her space number?  MORE HILARIOUS.  Mostly because Larrin is such a fucking cocktease, and I think that at this point in their relationship, John should have started to realize that oh my God, this is what I am like to the poor dudes and ladies who want in my pants.

Conversely, the McKay/Sheppard interaction in this episode was ridiculously married.  That closing scene?  I near wept with marriedness.

I posed the question to Martin Gero and Joe Mallozzi (among other questions) as to whether they wrote Larrin with the mind that she was the female equivalent of Sheppard or if that was something that just happened. We shall see if they answer :)

Also, John and Rodney? SO MARRIED!

We really got three Johns in this ep - John, Larrin, and Fran, who is Rodney’s version of John-with-a-vagina.

And Ronon wins at life. Hands down.

I am so glad that I’m not the only person who saw that ep and thought about John as a father. I’ve always found it fascinating that as awkward as he is with pretty much everyone in the world, he seems really comfortable with kids. Kinda unusual for a single guy in his late 30s, particularly one who isn’t close to his extended family. I hadn’t thought about the possibility that he was almost a father…that’s really, really interesting, but maybe too subtle for SGA? I dunno. But I would be kinda thrilled if the angst-fest with his ex has something to do with a kid.

Huh. I hadn’t thought about it that way, but that would make a lot of sense.

I think that, as a commanding officer, it was totally appropriate. Like, 110%. She was putting herself and everyone on her team in danger by not sharing that information. Thing is, they blur the lines between friend and team a lot - which is great - but the reaction as a friend, while appropriate, was also much more likely to be hurtful. She probably didn’t expect a baby shower, but at least a cursory congrats, after all the yelling. But, that said - I think he’s absolutely right to be upset, and even yell. I thought Ronon rocked it. Hard.

Also, Sheppard’s asking for Larrin’s space number (ha!) was TOTALLY HYSTERICAL. She’s all “ha, NO.” And he’s like “wait, what just happened there?” Awesome.

John Sheppard: give him something to fly, give him something to shoot, give him someone to save, but for the love of Ghu, don’t give him a bit of emotional ground to cover; he’ll trip over his awkward! :)

Ronon, on the other hand, wins with, “Ronon’s a good name for a boy or a girl.”

    – Yesyesyes! This is my own personal view of John and has been since season 1 and I don’t even concretely know why, but it is so true.

Also, that whole lj thing sucks so much, I’m so sorry that happened to you. People can be such pricks. Still, you’ve got a lot of love from the people who are still over there. *hugs*

I read so many anti-John posts after this ep and I am glad to know that you are still ranked with the “reasonable” group of fans. *G* (Everyone on my flist is too. Yay.)

I thought his reaction was totally appropriate, both as a worried friend and especially as a CO.

(And yes omg, John and Rodney are so very very married.)

I just read Marty’s guest post and he kind of failed to answer the question. Maybe he misunderstood. which would make the answer no.

Completely unintentional making th- Y’know what? That sentence isn’t going to make any sense, I can already tell, so I’m just gonna quit and go to bed.

re: John’s reaction - oh yes. I totally got it. Hell, if something happened to her and/or baby - that would tear him up, and she just didn’t see that in her quest to ‘prove she was still functioning’. There’s a time to accept the life you live is dangerous and make an adjustment!

I think what people forget is that John is emotionally shut off and distant mostly because he chooses to be (in reaction to whatever past trauma), but Ronon isn’t like that at all. He didn’t choose to be on his own for seven years, and the fact that he was a Runner doesn’t negate whatever loving, giving personality he may have had prior to that. And he was a soldier/warrior because *everyone* in Pegasus has to be with the Wraith out there. I like that they’ve shown more of his original personality as the show has gone on.

And I agree with John *and* also thought his reactions, on a personal non-military level, had something to do with having lost a child earlier in his life. And that would be some serious backstory (so I’m sure TPTB won’t go there). Although, JFlan would probably love it. Maybe someone should slip him a note? :)

And in closing, I want my Rodney reaction! No fair!

As much as I love the idea of John back story involving fatherhood (I vote for wife being unfaithful and trying to pass off the newborn as his until leaving him for her babydaddy), my ovaries would not cope with the awesomeness.
